In a recent announcement, the university introduced Alejandra Echeverri as the newest addition to their faculty in the field of conservation science. Alejandra, who goes by she/her pronouns, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role.

Alejandra Echeverri holds a B.Sc. in biology from Universidad de los Andes, a M.Sc. in resource management and environmental studies from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. in resources, environment, and sustainability also from the University of British Columbia.

When asked about her research interests, Alejandra shared, "I study the relationship between people and wildlife. I study the social and psychological perception of animals, by looking at the factors involved in peoples' motivation to protect biodiversity, as well as the cultural value of wildlife. I also study tropical birds, and evaluate how people are impacting the birds we see on tropical landscapes. My work is codeveloped with local communities and governments to guide environmental policy."

Aside from her academic pursuits, Alejandra also revealed a fun fact about herself, saying, "I love camping, canoeing, kayaking, and finding cool animals!"

With her interdisciplinary background and dedication to studying the intricate connections between humans and wildlife, Alejandra Echeverri is poised to make significant contributions to the field of conservation science.
