Isla Vista, Calif. – As we approach the unsanctioned festival weekend known as Deltopia, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released crucial information to ensure the safety of visitors. According to the Sheriff’s Office, falls from the bluffs in Isla Vista occur nearly every year, sometimes with fatal consequences. Therefore, visitors are urged to "remain on the proper side of all fencing or railing near the bluff’s edge to prevent injury."

In preparation for Deltopia, the Restorative Justice program will be suspended, with all citations issued during this period being sent to the courts. Additionally, festival and social host ordinances have been updated, with hosts now prohibited from collecting fees, donations, or selling tickets to parties in residential zones. Furthermore, hosts are reminded that selling alcohol without a permit and hosting parties with over 250 attendees in a residential property are strictly prohibited.

Visitors are reminded that possessing open containers of alcohol in public, including on the streets and sidewalks of Isla Vista, is illegal. It is emphasized that underage individuals should not possess alcohol at all. To promote safety, individuals are advised to "drink responsibly, avoid drinking to excess, and ensure you have a safe way to get home. Use the buddy system!"

During Deltopia weekend, a noise curfew will be in effect, prohibiting audible music from residences or businesses between 6 pm and 7 am each day. Furthermore, a DUI checkpoint will be operational at an undisclosed location, prompting visitors to drive safely and designate a sober driver.

In the event of a drug or alcohol overdose, the Good Samaritan Law protects individuals who seek aid for others, regardless of their own state of sobriety. This law was designed to encourage bystanders to help during emergencies and is considered a vital tool during Deltopia weekend.

For those planning to drive to Isla Vista, the City of Goleta's parking permit program will be enforced in specified neighborhoods closest to the festival area. Parking permits are required in the University 1 and University 2 neighborhoods, including the Cannon Green Condominium complex, from April 5th to April 7th.

To access additional information, including a map and FAQs about parking restrictions, visitors are directed to the City of Goleta's website. The Sheriff’s Office has also made these tips available on their YouTube channel, highlighting the importance of adhering to these guidelines for a safe Deltopia weekend.
