California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced the arrests of 24 suspects as part of a three-day multiagency operation aimed at targeting child predators in Sacramento County. The operation, named "Spring Cleaning," utilized undercover agents and detectives posing as minors on social media platforms and websites commonly used by predators. The Human Trafficking and Sexual Predator Apprehension Team (HT/SPAT), along with Homeland Security Investigations, collaborated with 21 law enforcement agencies and a total of 90 officers during the operation.
Attorney General Bonta expressed his determination to combat sexual exploitation and human trafficking, stating, "Our determination to fight sexual exploitation and human trafficking remains unwavering because even one person being exploited is unacceptable." He emphasized California's zero tolerance for such crimes and highlighted the establishment of a specialized unit within the Department of Justice, the Human Trafficking and Sexual Predator Apprehension Team, to aggressively address these issues.
Regarding the arrests made during the operation, Attorney General Bonta mentioned that eleven vehicles were towed, and law enforcement officers executed eight residential search warrants. The suspects are facing felony charges related to offenses such as attempting lewd acts with a minor and child pornography production.
The operation involved a collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and various other local and federal agencies.
In conclusion, Attorney General Bonta expressed his appreciation for the partners involved in the operation, stating, "Together, we can forge a safer future for all vulnerable individuals who rightfully deserve protection, freedom, and justice." He also provided information for individuals in need of help, urging them to contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline or call 9-1-1 in cases of immediate danger.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has produced a video detailing the operation, providing further insight into the efforts undertaken to apprehend child predators.
