California DOJ investigates Los Angeles officer-involved shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced today that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating and will independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred on July 10, 2024, in Los Angeles, California. The incident, which resulted in the death of one individual, took place around 2:45 p.m. and involved the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office.

Upon learning of the incident, DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation as mandated by Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506). Once the investigation is complete, it will be handed over to DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
