U.S. Congress member Representative Norma Torres, who represents California’s 35th district since 2015 and has a background in both the California State Assembly and Senate, has been vocal on various issues through her recent tweets. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala, and a graduate from the National Labor College, Torres resides in Pomona at the age of 58.
In a tweet posted on April 3, 2025, Torres criticized former President Donald Trump for mass layoffs in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She stated, “Trump’s mass HHS layoffs prove what we already knew—he doesn’t care about working families. In #CA35, kids are losing Head Start, older adults are losing Meals on Wheels, and hardworking people are left picking up the pieces. This isn’t leadership, it’s betrayal.”
Later that day, at 16:00 UTC, Torres shared a personal experience from the April Kilroy Coffee Klatch held at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. She expressed appreciation for the gathering by tweeting, “#TeamTorres joined the April Kilroy Coffee Klatch at the Planes of Fame Air Museum! It was a truly special chance to connect with veterans and constituents from our district, listen to their stories, and share important federal resources. Thank you to the museum for hosting”.
Additionally, on the same day, Torres announced a legislative effort in collaboration with Representative David Valadao. Together, they introduced the Removing Nitrate & Arsenic in Drinking Water Act. Torres stated, “Today, @RepDavidValadao and I introduced the Removing Nitrate & Arsenic in Drinking Water Act. This bipartisan bill secures $15M annually to combat water contamination and protect public health. Every community deserves safe drinking water!”
