The University of California, Davis has announced the retirement of David Lubarsky, who has served as the vice chancellor of human health sciences and chief executive officer at UC Davis Health. His retirement will be effective on February 15, 2025. Following his departure from UC Davis, Lubarsky will assume the role of president and CEO at Westchester Medical Center Health Network in Valhalla, New York.
David Lubarsky began leading UC Davis Health in July 2018. During his leadership, he increased patient numbers by over 60% and enhanced the diversity among faculty and staff. Under his guidance, UC Davis Health became recognized nationally as a top health system for patient outcomes and reduced mortality rates. The facilities underwent significant changes to accommodate more patients effectively.
Lubarsky was recently acknowledged by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “top academic CEOs to know.” Throughout his tenure, he focused on rebuilding community trust in UC Davis Health and reinforcing the university's dedication to providing improved care for all individuals.
Chancellor Gary S. May expressed appreciation for Lubarsky’s contributions: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lubarsky for his visionary leadership as well as his numerous contributions to advancing our mission of innovation, excellence, and outstanding service,” said Chancellor May. “We wish him well in the next chapter of his distinguished career.”
Post-retirement plans include Chancellor May developing an interim strategy to maintain alignment with UC Davis Health’s strategic objectives while preparing for future advancements within the health system. An announcement regarding interim arrangements is anticipated by late January.
