Governor Gavin Newsom, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and the California Museum have announced the 18th class of the California Hall of Fame. This year's inductees are all women, marking a first in the history of the Hall of Fame. The posthumous inductees for this year include Julia Child, Ina Donna Coolbrith, Vicki Manalo Draves, Mitsuye Endo, Dian Fossey, Alice Piper, and Tina Turner. The virtual induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 19.
Governor Gavin Newsom expressed pride in inducting an all-female cohort into the Hall of Fame. He stated that these women are "powerful" figures who embody the "California spirit." First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom also praised the honorees for their achievements and contributions to societal progress.
Anne Marie Petrie, Chair of the California Museum Board of Trustees, emphasized the significance of celebrating these women's achievements. She noted that they have made significant contributions to culture and history.
The California Hall of Fame was established in 2006 to honor Californians who have made substantial impacts on both state and national levels. Inductees are chosen annually by the Governor and First Partner based on their achievements across various sectors.
