A man from Montecito was arrested for the negligent discharge of a firearm after a shooting incident that resulted in serious injuries to a victim. On January 15, 2025, at around 11:53 a.m., deputies were called to the 400-block of Woodley Road following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male victim who had been shot in the upper arm while walking his dog. Investigations revealed that the bullet originated from inside a nearby residence, identified by a bullet hole in a window facing the victim's direction. Deputies detained Bendar Albashir, aged 44, who was providing aid to the injured man. It appears there is no prior acquaintance between Albashir and the victim.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. Albashir was booked at the Main Jail on charges of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, classified as a felony. He has since been released on bail. Detectives executed a warrant at Albashir’s home and recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.
