Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office opens applications for Citizen's Academy

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for its Citizen's Academy, providing an inside look at law enforcement operations in the area. The academy offers participants insights into various topics such as the history of law enforcement, criminal law, patrol tactics, and de-escalation communication. Additionally, hands-on learning opportunities include firearms instruction and forensics evidence collection.

"The Citizen’s Academy is an engaging and informational behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement in Santa Barbara," stated the Sheriff's Office. They emphasized that it is a valuable opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement to gain a deeper understanding of the agency's operations.

Classes will commence on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Northern Branch Jail. Sessions will continue every Thursday until April 24, 2025. The program will conclude with a Graduation BBQ/luncheon on Saturday, April 16, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.

Eligibility requirements specify that participants must be at least 18 years old. Applications should be submitted by Friday, February 14, 2025.
