Congressman Brad Sherman, who has represented California's 32nd District since 1997, recently took to social media to address comments made by former President Donald Trump. In a series of tweets dated January 25, 2025, Sherman discussed issues related to insurance and climate change.
In his first tweet, Sherman referenced a statement made by Trump regarding insurance companies withdrawing from California. "Last night, President Trump claimed insurance companies were pulling out of California because of people who think like Brad Sherman," he wrote. He noted that during Trump's first term, the federal government provided substantial subsidies for flood insurance primarily benefiting Trump's home state.
Sherman's second tweet highlighted the challenges faced by Floridians in obtaining private homeowners insurance despite federal support for flood insurance. "Even with federally supported flood insurance, 1 million Floridians were unable to obtain private homeowners insurance because of the risk of flood due to climate change," he stated.
In another post on the same day, Sherman pointed out the lack of federal assistance for fire insurance and suggested a need for more serious action on global warming. "The federal government provides no help for fire insurance. Maybe if we were serious about global warming, homeowners insurance would be more available in the Pacific Palisades and Florida," he remarked.
