Congressman Brad Sherman, who has been serving California’s 32nd district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, recently shared his insights on social media regarding air traffic controller shortages and federal assistance for disaster relief. Born in Los Angeles in 1954, Sherman is a graduate of UCLA and Harvard University.
On January 30, 2025, Sherman addressed the ongoing shortage of air traffic controllers, stating that "Any controller can quit now and get rehired in October since we will continue to have a shortage of air traffic controllers. In the interim, there are private companies that hire air traffic controllers that have contracts from the FAA."
The following day, January 31, he discussed his recent conversation with FEMA's acting administrator Hamilton about extending deadlines for federal assistance beyond March 10. He mentioned improvements needed in FEMA's processes and expressed community concerns regarding debris removal programs related to the Palisades Fire: "Today I spoke with the new @FEMA_Cam acting administrator Hamilton on the need to extend deadlines for federal assistance past March 10, discussed ways to improve FEMA’s processes and shared community concerns on the need to improve the debris removal program."
On February 1, Sherman clarified misconceptions about local natural disasters by stating "This has absolutely nothing to do with the Los Angeles County fires. Our Los Angeles County reservoirs are full."
