Governor Gavin Newsom visited Washington, DC, to meet with President Donald Trump and members of Congress to secure disaster aid for Los Angeles fire survivors. Accompanied by Wade Crowfoot, Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency, Newsom aimed to expedite recovery efforts for those affected by the Southern California wildfires.

"As we approach one month since the devastating wildfires across Southern California, we continue to cut red tape to speed up recovery and clean up efforts as well as ensure rebuilding efforts are swift. We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need. Thank you President Trump for coming to our communities to see this first hand, and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted," stated Governor Gavin Newsom.

On Capitol Hill, Newsom met with California Delegation members including Representatives Doug LaMalfa, Ken Calvert, Judy Chu, Brad Sherman, and George Whitesides. He also engaged with Senate leaders such as New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich, Georgia Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock, and Washington Senator Patty Murray alongside California Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff.

Newsom's discussions at the White House with President Trump focused on securing unconditional disaster aid. This follows Trump's visit to view the wildfire damage during his initial presidential trip.

The Governor highlighted the necessity of federal assistance for recovery and rebuilding efforts while praising early cooperation from the Trump Administration. He acknowledged EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's role in deploying over 1,000 personnel for debris removal.

Governor Newsom remains committed to supporting Southern California's wildfire survivors through expedited relief measures.
