Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several key appointments across various departments and boards in California. These appointments include positions that do not require Senate confirmation, except for two which will need approval.
Kate Hoit of Sacramento has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary of Communications at the California Department of Veterans Affairs. Hoit brings extensive experience from her roles at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other organizations focused on veterans' issues. Her new role comes with a compensation package of $154,860.
Shaun Spillane from Gold River is now the Chief Deputy Inspector General at the Office of the Inspector General. Spillane's career includes significant legal experience within this office and other state departments. His position offers a salary of $201,972.
Michael “Mike” Detoy from Hermosa Beach joins the California Public Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration. Detoy has served as both a councilmember and mayor in Hermosa Beach and holds a leadership position with Riverside City Firefighters Association. His role provides compensation on a per diem basis.
Christopher Gonder from Brawley has been appointed to the Commission on Correctional Peace Officer Standards and Training. Gonder is actively involved in correctional officer associations but will not receive compensation for this appointment.
Hellen Hong from Los Angeles continues her service on the Civil Rights Council, requiring Senate confirmation for reappointment. Hong's career spans various executive roles focusing on access to justice and inclusion, with her current position offering per diem compensation.
Hugh Crooks, also from Los Angeles, remains on the California Veterans Board pending Senate confirmation. Crooks has a long history of service in human resources management and veteran affairs organizations, compensated similarly on a per diem basis.
