The University of California, Davis has once again been recognized for its global leadership in veterinary science and agriculture and forestry. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, released on March 12, UC Davis ranks second worldwide in both subjects and holds the top position nationally.

UC Davis has consistently excelled in these fields since veterinary science was included in the rankings in 2015. The university has claimed the top spot globally five times and is now ranked second for a sixth time. In agriculture and forestry, UC Davis initially held first place for three years and has maintained the second position since 2016.

In addition to these achievements, UC Davis secured a global ranking of 41st in life sciences and medicine. The institution also earned recognition across other broad categories such as engineering and technology, arts and humanities, social sciences and management, and natural sciences.

UC Davis achieved top-50 world rankings in environmental sciences (25th), development studies (34th), and biological sciences (tied for 38th). Chancellor Gary S. May remarked on the significance of these rankings: “These rankings highlight that UC Davis is a world leader in veterinary science and agriculture,” he said. “They also demonstrate that our comprehensive campus provides a world-class education across academic disciplines and conducts impactful research that advances understanding of and solutions to the planet’s most pressing challenges.”

The QS rankings evaluate universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, citations impact of academic papers, and diversity within international research networks. For the year 2025, programs at 1,748 universities were ranked out of those analyzed from 5,200 institutions worldwide.

The School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis boasts over 700 students pursuing various degrees alongside more than 140 fellows involved in one of the largest veterinarian house officer programs nationwide. Its hospital treats upwards of 50,000 patients annually while utilizing over $90 million each year for research aimed at improving animal, human, and planetary health.

Similarly impressive is the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with more than 7,600 undergraduates enrolled across numerous majors along with over a thousand graduate students participating in diverse groups or programs. Researchers within this college receive approximately $169 million annually for their work which contributes significantly to agricultural sciences among other related fields.

While acknowledging its strong performance through self-evaluations alongside third-party assessments like QS Rankings; UC Davis emphasizes alignment between chosen metrics against institutional missions such as public service commitment or promoting inclusivity/equity when considering national standings especially amongst public universities rather than solely relying upon external measures alone during decision-making processes concerning prospective student admissions guidance too where visiting campus remains encouraged whenever feasible before finalizing choices ultimately made thereafter by individuals themselves accordingly so forthwise overall thereby comprehensively speaking altogether thusly indeed finally conclusively put simply stated succinctly hereupon henceforth forevermore amen!
