UC Davis responds to Community Park shooting amid campus events

The University of California, Davis has expressed its sorrow over a shooting incident that occurred at Community Park in Davis, where individuals enjoying the area were injured. The shooting took place on Saturday afternoon during the university's annual student-led Picnic Day, which is a significant event on campus.

UC Davis was in the process of concluding the day’s activities when the news came out. In a statement, UC Davis conveyed, "Like everyone, UC Davis is learning more from the city of Davis Police, who are leading this investigation. We wish a full recovery for those individuals who were injured."

The statement highlighted appreciation for the prompt response from law enforcement and emergency services, saying, "We’re grateful for the response from the Davis Police Department and other first responders on scene, including the UC Davis police and fire departments." The university is also reaching out to its students to assess if any need support following the event.

Picnic Day draws tens of thousands of visitors who come to celebrate the university's community and programs. "Our hearts go out to our students who organize such a massive effort on campus, and to all those in the city of Davis, where activities often peaceably continue," added the university.

UC Davis has assured full cooperation with the ongoing investigation led by the Davis Police and mentioned that updates relevant to the campus community will be shared as they become available.
