Paycheck Protection Program loans, Economic Injury Disaster loans, the Small Business relief grant program, the Small Business Disaster Relief loan guarantee program, and other help for small businesses are available for California business owners.
Afraid to see her business permanently closed, Denise Russell, owner of a San Jose salon, Special FX Salon & Day Spa, has initially availed of the PPP loan and is again applying for a next batch, together with a current application for a state grant.
Financial support such as loan programs, tax relief, and grants both at national and state levels have brought hope to small business owners but they say those are not enough. Small businesses are trying to stay afloat amidst various expenses, convincing themselves that they can make it and recover, but are confused with so many guidelines and systems, including eligibility.
“They make it so complicated,” said Russell. “They’re constantly changing the rules. I mean, it’s a nightmare.”
Another business owner, Brian Rauso of Green Cheek Brewing Co. in Orange County, who also applied for some loans, is worried that government support is “too little, too late,” the CalMatters reported.
Gov. Gavin Newsom, in his virtual address, said he understands how small businesses have been affected by the pandemic while announcing his $4.5 billion Equitable Recovery for California's Businesses and Jobs plan.
