House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that the best way for the Capitol insurrection investigation to move forward is to provide the commission in charge of it the power to subpoena.

Pelosi spoke with reporters in her weekly news conference and told the crowd that the commission in charge of looking into the Capitol riots that occurred on January 6 should be given the authority to question witnesses who are unwilling to provide testimony. She said that if everyone wants to find the truth to what happened on that day the committee in charge of the investigation should have “subpoena power” and seeing that there is big support to uncover the truth she is confident that they will get the power to subpoena witnesses.

But the Republican Party is concerned that this might be another partisan effort to undermine their party. Rodney Davis of Illinois’ 13th congressional district said that it is important for all of them to know more about the structure of the commission. He said, “If Speaker Pelosi’s vision of a 9/11 Commission is to only stay focused on Republicans, then she is really not interested in a truly 9/11-type commission,”

Other Republicans who are wary of Pelosi’s motive are also questioning her role in the Capitol riots. Jim Jordan, James Comer and Devin Nunes are a few among those Republicans who are questioning Pelosi’s lack of control on Capitol security during the January 6 riots.
