Senate Bill 74, co-authored by state Sens. Andreas Borgeas (R–Fresno) and Anna Caballero (D–Salinas), received impressive support from both sides of the aisles of the Assembly and Senate.
Adding to this success, The Keep California Working Act had initial support from 34 various business organizations and counties. The number of organizations has more than doubled since a list was published in January.
Among the 89 various organizations supporting SB 74 today are the National Federation of Independent Businesses, which has a presence in every state, and the California Restaurant Association (CalRestaurants) that has active chapters across California.
“I want to thank Sen. Anna Caballero and our colleagues who joined us in co-authoring SB 74,” said Borgeas, The Sacramento News & Review reported. “In addition, I’d like to thank the organizations who lent their support to the bill. California’s small businesses and nonprofits need economic relief now. This path toward victory proves that when legislators cross the aisle and work together on our most pressing needs we can get things done.”
The bill offers $2.6 billion in grants for small businesses impacted by COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced that immediate relief for small businesses has been raised “from $500 million to more than $2 billion – for grants up to $25,000 for small businesses impacted by the pandemic, and also allocates $50 million for cultural institutions,” according to a press release published on gov.ca.gov.
