Mike Gatto, a former Assemblymember, said he decided to withhold information regarding his father's case from his staff when going through an intense pursuit of leads and evidence with a perceived lack of focus during his later political career. Gatto was a guest on a recent episode of the Next Round Podcast.

"I hid it from my staff, and probably the only person who knew was my wife because, number one, I was getting all these tips all the time, and I was obsessing over it, and it was not healthy," said Gatto on the Next Round Podcast hosted by the Pacific Research Institute think tank. “I felt like, if I could only collect more evidence, if I could only try to logic stuff out more, if I could only reach more people, if I could only talk and find more people who might've been eyewitnesses and so on and so forth, that maybe this would be the break that solved my dad's case.”

“My dad also, like many people, I mean, obviously he didn't expect to die',” Gatto said. There was a lot of work just sorting through his stuff and doing things like that. I feel bad sometimes that for some of my latter years in office that, I wasn't as focused as I could have been. I tried my best to juggle everything."

Gatto, a former Assemblymember, chaired the Appropriations Committee. Following his father's unsolved murder, he explored crime investigations, law enforcement, and politics in Los Angeles.
