California Attorney General Rob Bonta has taken a strong stance against alleged misconduct within the law enforcement community by filing charges against Diana Teran, the Assistant District Attorney at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s (LADA) Office. Teran has been charged with 11 felony violations of Penal Code section 502, subdivision (c)(2), for the repeated and unauthorized use of data from confidential, statutorily-protected peace officer files.
In a statement, Attorney General Bonta emphasized that "No one is above the law." He highlighted the importance of public officials serving with integrity and honesty, stating, "At the California Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the people of California and hold those who break the law accountable."
The allegations against Teran suggest that she accessed computer data, including confidential peace officer files, in 2018 while working as a Constitutional Policing Advisor at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Subsequently, after joining the LADA in January 2021, she is accused of impermissibly using that data.
The seriousness of the charges reflects the commitment of the California Department of Justice to uphold the law and ensure accountability among public officials. A copy of the complaint filed against Teran can be accessed for further details.
