The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office recently welcomed five new deputies who graduated from the Allan Hancock College Basic Law Enforcement Academy. The class, consisting of 26 recruits, completed a rigorous 22-week program aligned with California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), totaling 862 hours of instruction. The curriculum covered a range of topics including communication skills, report writing, laws of arrest, search and seizure, firearms handling, ethics, investigation procedures, patrol techniques, arrest and control methods, physical training, CPR/First Aid, and emergency vehicle operations.
Sheriff Brown conducted a swearing-in ceremony prior to the graduation event for the new deputies: Hector Andrade Jr., Joshua Janecek, Jack Sevier, Melvin Stovall IV, and Christopher Yu. This significant milestone in their careers was attended by close family members who participated in a badge pinning ceremony. During this momentous occasion, recruits had their badges pinned onto their uniforms by parents or significant others. This event marked the culmination of more than six months of dedication by the recruits and support from their families.
In recognition of outstanding performance during training, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputy Jack Sevier received the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Award for his exemplary defensive driving skills.
