The University of California, Davis has introduced a new initiative titled "From Labs to Lives" aimed at showcasing the impact of federally funded research. This initiative includes a website and video series designed to highlight how such research benefits the public and what could happen if funding is reduced or cut.

The website offers video interviews with UC Davis faculty from both the Davis and Sacramento campuses. It also provides downloadable materials such as flashcards describing each featured researcher’s work, fact sheets on federal investments in various fields, and briefs about each federal agency's influence on the university.

Initial features include researchers like Leigh Ann Simmons, Ramsey Badawi, Stuart Cohen, John Conway, Theanne Griffith, and Koen Van Rompay. New interviews and flashcards will be added weekly.

UC Davis emphasizes that its interdisciplinary research significantly contributes to the regional economy by supporting $2 billion in economic activity in California and nearly 10,000 jobs. The research supports 1,290 active patients, has led to 119 startups over the past decade, and generates $15 million annually through licensing, royalties, and fees.

The university asserts that its research helps address global challenges while maintaining the United States' leadership in technology and innovation. Notable areas include studies on emerging health threats and strategies for feeding a growing global population.

“From Labs to Lives” is a collaborative effort produced by UC Davis's Office of Strategic Communications along with the Office of Research and Government and Community Relations.
