In his first tweet, Sherman criticized former President Donald Trump's handling of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He expressed disappointment that Trump was unable to secure the release of American Mark Vogel without compromising by releasing an individual described as "an expert money launderer responsible for thousands of deaths in America." Sherman further stated, "Trump betrayed an entire country and couldn’t get one American released in return."
Sherman continued his critique of Trump in a subsequent tweet, commenting on the length and content of one of Trump's speeches. He remarked that "Trump had too many lies to fit into a short speech. This one is going on and on."
On the same day, Sherman shifted focus to labor rights by announcing his support for the Protecting the Right to Organize Act.
