Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale), while condemning the Capitol violence, said that Democrats were pushing for President Donald Trump’s impeachment because they hate him.
House Democrats on Monday filed a single article of impeachment against Trump for “incitement of insurrection” after violent protesters attacked the Capitol last week.
In what he called the ‘second annual impeachment show extravaganza’, LaMalfa said that the proceeding “isn’t really about the actual words spoken at the rally.”
“This is all about, Madam Speaker, the unbridled hatred of this president. You used very extreme language and any process to oppose the core of what he has really fought for,” LaMalfa continued.
“You hate him because he was pro-life.”
“You hate him for defending our borders.”
“You hate him for putting America first.”
LaMalfa voted against the article of impeachment, which stated, “President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government."
He concluded his speech by calling on everyone to put a stop to the “shameful abuse of the process” through free speech and fair election.
If President Trump “were to be impeached and convicted, his ability to run in 2024 would depend on whether Congress decided to disqualify him or not,” according to the Verify Team.
