Governor Newsom announces key appointments across various state departments

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a series of appointments to various state positions. Deborah Hoffman, based in Sacramento, has been named Chief Deputy Director at the Office of Tax Appeals. Hoffman's previous roles include Special Advisor at the California Department of Veterans Affairs and Senior Advisor for Communications. She has also held positions in the California Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency and served as Deputy Press Secretary in Governor Brown's office. Hoffman is registered without party preference and her new role does not require Senate confirmation with a compensation set at $187,104.

Krista Dunzweiler, also from Sacramento, has been appointed Chief Deputy General Counsel in the Office of Legal Affairs at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Dunzweiler has served as Chief Deputy General Counsel since 2019 and previously worked with the California Department of Justice. She holds degrees from the University of the Pacific including a Juris Doctor degree. Her appointment does not require Senate confirmation and comes with a compensation package of $229,236. Dunzweiler is affiliated with the Democratic Party.

Todd Gloria from San Diego has been appointed to the California Air Resources Board. Gloria currently serves as Mayor of San Diego and was an Assemblymember in the California State Assembly prior to that role. His past experience includes serving on San Diego City Council and working as District Director for Congresswoman Susan A. Davis. This position requires Senate confirmation with a compensation rate set at $100 per diem. Gloria is also associated with the Democratic Party.

Roxanne Messina Captor from Redondo Beach will continue her service on the California Arts Council where she has been since 2022. Captor is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and educator who teaches at Santa Monica College and New York Film Academy among other institutions. Her reappointment requires Senate confirmation with compensation similarly set at $100 per diem. Captor identifies as a Democrat.
