California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Salinas, California. The incident, which occurred on January 29, 2025, involved personnel from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and resulted in one fatality.
The investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates independent reviews of such incidents. Following notification by local authorities, the DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its inquiry. Upon completion, findings will be submitted to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section for further review.
